Brooklyn, MI is known for many things, from MIS to the local lakes and the quaint and festive downtown. One name that has been around since after the Prohibition is Callaghan’s. While the Callaghan’s name is not new to Brooklyn, the family owned, Callaghan’s Coffee Cafe opened its doors in August of 2020.

New to the scene, their menu features traditional coffee drinks like espresso, cold brew and lattes, cold drinks like iced tea, lemonade and smoothies and an assortment of sandwiches, wraps and baked goods to eat. Desiree Fires’ favorite item on the menu is the Mound Latte: a latte with dark chocolate and coconut flavoring and oat milk. The cafe also boasts a drive-thru window around the back of the building and online ordering via the Toast TakeOut app.

The new owners, Chad and Desiree Fires saw the space downtown that sat vacant for the last several years and knew that was the SPOT for their dream coffee shop! The building itself needed a lot of renovations and remodeling. While going through plans, the Fires found hidden treasures of the past bar, including retro mirrors, high school football helmets and a pool table light. They gave the public a chance to own a piece of history with a silent auction of these items!

Fast forward to 2020, Callaghan’s Coffee Cafe, kept the name and is now a spot to hit when in need of a caffience fix or a sweet treat! If you are in the area, take a peek at the toastab link below to order ahead of time or stop by and check out the new coffee spot in town!

Clark Lake is one of many Lakes in the area, but is home to several restaurants that cater to Lake Life. One of which allows your boat to dock right up against their outdoor patio area, is The Eagle’s Nest Bar & Grill. That’s right, it is back and better than ever!

Eagle Point housed the Eagles Nest restaurant for more than 50 years before having to close their doors in 2011. Most recently, this spot was known as a high-end restaurant, The Pointe. The Pointe closed in October of 2020 and has since been under a transformation from the upscale, collared shirt type to a hop off your raft & feel at home bar/restaurant, thanks to the new owner Blair Huff.

Huff also owns the ever popular Lucero’s down the street and has also brought on his manager Jorge Orozco for this new lakeside spot! Due to staffing issues, The Eagle’s Nest was unable to open as early as they wanted, but officially opened their doors on July 28th, 2021.

With a fresh facelift, some major reconstruction and a dynamite new menu, there is a lot to see and experience at The Eagle’s Nest. If you are in the area, driving through or cruising around on the Lake, make sure you put this SPOT on your list!

It’s that time of year again! If you are a garage sale hero - you will WANT to take a trip through the Irish Hills along US-12 this weekend. The annual US 12 Heritage Trail Annual Garage Sale is this weekend, August 13th - August 15th!

Front yards and rented space along US 12 will be FILLED with all sorts of items, from antiques to furniture and everything in between. Many spots you can also find fresh garden produce and homemade jams and jellies. Some of the sales are located on farms, homes, businesses, empty fields and more. With over 180 Miles of garage sales, there is something for everyone!

In Cement City, McCourtie Park will be hosting the US-12 Garage sale as well as having a live band on Friday, August 13th from 6pm - 9pm. There are several restaurants, wineries and scenic views along this route, so if you are a garage sale hero - there are plenty of things to make a day out of Michigan's Longest Garage Sale!

Make sure you take special care while driving, parking and crossing the road while enjoying the sales this weekend.

They have a HUGE beer and cocktail menu, featuring some of the best brews and spirits the Great Lakes State creates. They offer more than the standard “bar food” at this Tavern. With a huge selection of fresh salads, locally sourced meat and delicious selection of handhelds, there is truly something here for everyone!

If that doesn’t have you convinced to stop out, Boot Jack’s hosts Trivia Wednesdays and often has live music. They also have a gorgeous outdoor space with twinkly lights that is a perfect spot to spend a summer night with friends. If you ask a local around here about meat markets, they will likely tell you about McAuliffe's Meats. Since 1990, this family owned Meat Market, is known for fair pricing and a HUGE assortment. They specialize in quality meats and also offer produce.

Prior to this year, if you visited McAuliffe's you would have been driving down a dirt road unsure where you were heading. Luckily, once you found the Meat Market, you will not be dissapointed. From the huge selection of meats and fish, produce and friendly staff, it is no wonder McAuliffe's is a hidden gem!

This year, they moved the market to a facility out on US-127 but still offer outstanding products with fair pricing. If you don't believe us, just check some of the reviews below:

Watkins Lake State Park

New to the long list of State Parks, Watkins Lake State Park and County Preserve was added as the 103rd Park in 2015. Located by Watkins Lake in the Brooklyn area, this Park is rich in history, stunning views and tons of wildlife.

Watkins Lake State Park & County Preserve is known for watchable-wildlife and features the Irish HIlls iconic rolling land with a mixture of open meadows, hardwoods, low wetland areas, open water and most notable, Watkins Lake. The 5-mile walking trail provides huge opportunities for bird watching and other wildlife.

While very beautiful, this plot of land also captures part of Michigan’s contribution to the Underground Railroad. The Watkins Farm was owned by early settler Royal Watkins in the 1800’s. Royal and his wife, Sally, both adamantly opposed slavery and employeed African and Native Americans and actively worked with activists to aide those fleeing from slavery.

The Watkins Farm joins 25 other Michigan sites and programs officially connected to the Underground Railroad history through the Michigan Freedom Trail Commission and teh National Network to Freedom. The Watkins Civil-War era home is still standing, but is not part of the park or the Network to Freedom Listing.

This Park is not only a significant historical location, but is also home to an abundance of wildlife. It is a largely popular birding spot and should definitely make you list!

Along the shores of Devil’s Lake resides a bar/restaurant that has STOOD the test of time! The Highland Inn, in Manitou Beach has been around since 1927; over 90 years! Surviving the prohibition, and now the pandemic, there is definitely a reason these guys have stuck around!

From the scenic lake views and the rustic charm, The Highland Inn is a spot you don’t want to miss out on! Their menu is absolutely HUGE and offers something for everyone. If you are ever around, their infamous Taco Tuesdays are legend! Highland Inn also offers different specials daily, so make sure you check out their FB page!

This area is known for having an abundance of vineyards and wineries. We are NOT mad about that. In Tecumseh, on the outskirts of town, is a place, the owner, Michael Wells turned into his dream! Black Fire Winery opened in 2016 and should make it on your list to stop!

For many years, Michael was working full time for the fire-department, but knew he wanted to follow his interests for winemaking. He took classes on viticulture, enology, winemaking at Michigan State University and eventually began growing grapes! Next he planted 5 acres of grape vines and began the process of creating Black Fire Winery!

The year following opening, ciders and beers were added to the manufactured drinks on the menu! Black Fire Winery has on tap eight beers and eight ciders available with a variety of wines to choose from. If that isn’t enough to peek your interest, most times you will find live music and entertainment!

Whether you are looking for a quick tasting or an afternoon hanging out overlooking a vineyard with friends, Black Fire Winery is the spot!

Michigan is has over 100 State Parks throughout the scenic state. The Irish Hills is home to one of Michigan’s first parks, W.J. Hayes State Park! The park covers over 654 acres on the corner of Wamplers Lake!

The W. J. Hayes State Park was dedicated in 1920. In 1930 the park was named in honor of the family of Michigan State Senator Walter J. Hayes after they made a donation of land.

The park has some of the best scenery that Michigan has to offer; lakes, wildlife, woods and so much more! With an array of available activities, this Park is perfect to create lasting memories with your friends and families.

Fishing for bass, bluegill and pike, swimming, hiking, boat launch, boat rentals, campgrounds and mini-cabins are all options while enjoying W. J. Hayes State Park!

While Brooklyn, MI generally is known for its connection with NASCAR and MIS, there is so much more to the small Village of Brooklyn. The Downtown area has an assortment of cute shops, a darling gazebo and Shady’s Taproom!

Newer to the Downtown area, Shady’s is a place for friends and family can come to enjoy a brew and socialize together as a community. Shady’s Taproom was founded in 2012 by lifelong Columbia Township residents, Pat and Brenda Collins. In 2019 the restaurant was acquired by Michigan Restauranteur, Johnnie Deangelis. With a family friendly menu, a large craft beer menu and a full bar there is truly something for everyone!

Throughout the Irish Hills, there are numerous courses to set up a tee time at. One in particular has been designed by a PGA Tour Professional, Mike Hill. The Hills Heart of the Lakes Golf Course is an 18-hole course that has been open to the public since 1969.

Mike Hill turned professional in 1967 and joined the PGA Tour in 1968. He then joined the Seior PGA Tour in 1989 and was even inducted into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 1994! With several victories and accomplishments under his belt, Mike has created a course that gives all level of player a challenging game.

The course features two sets of tees for different skill levels and is home to many water and sand obstacles. Also on site there is an event facility with a capacity of 90 guests. The Hills of Heart of the Lakes Course has been home to several corporate and private golf outings.

However, in Downtown Tecumseh, Pentamere Winery gives you a DOWNTOWN style tasting room. Which allows for patrons to stop in for tastings and continue on their way of shopping, exploring festivals or just down the sidewalk.

Pentamere Winery is a true local, Michigan business. Right down to the name of the winery is tied to Michigan; Pentamere means FIVE LAKES! Every grape is sourced from Michigan and the Great Lakes Region and ALL wines are produced in house! This local, family owned winery has a FULL list of different style wines; so there truly is something for everyone! Guests are welcomed to even take a peek at the winemaking process, making it a truly memorable experience.

When driving through Somerset Center, it is hard to miss the white school bus near the edge of US 12. While many might just continue driving through, Special Ed’s Donuts is WORTH the stop. With an assortment of food and drinks, Special Ed’s is known for delicious donuts and a warm welcome.

A family owned business, Ed’s brings in people from out of state as well as down the road here in Michigan. Ed Kimble, a retired football, wrestling and baseball coach for Addison Community School is the man responsible for bringing the amazing scents of cinnamon and fresh made donuts to Somerset Center.

Ed began making donuts on a whim when he purchased a small donut machine and initially began giving donuts to his students and friends. He frequently made donuts for his football team and handed them out with chocolate milk. Nowadays, Kimble runs a small, but successful production that is a fan favorite in the local area.

If you are looking for a fun and different place to bring the family donuts from or just cruising along US 12, Special Ed’s Donuts is definitely a spot to check out!

Normally, this post would highlight another local community business. This week we wanted to highlight our very our Artesian Wells restaurant, but specifically announce the RETURN OF BIKE NIGHTS!

The Wells has been known for providing LIVE entertainment, a fun atmosphere, cold drinks and good food! This spring/summer season will be no exception! Hosted on our HUGE outdoor patio area, Bike Nights will kick off May 13th at 6:00 PM with the Band METRO, weather permitting!

Artesian Wells is a FUN bar/restaurant that has a great atmosphere to watch “the game”, have happy hour, or bring the whole family for dinner! The Wells boasts a large menu that has something for everyone, especially with the carryout or dine in options! The dining area is FILLED to the brim with large TVs and vintage motorcycles lining the roof of the building.

Did you know that The Wells has T H R E E banquet halls? It is the perfect spot to host a shower, a family reunion or even just a meeting!

If you want to take a step back in time, The Brickhouse is for you! This plot was originally one of the largest farms in Michigan back in the 1800’s! Tecumseh has a rich history and several historical buildings that line their downtown streets! The building that is home to Muk’s Sports Pub has been around since before 1896! A Tecumseh favorite, Muk’s is that feel good, let’s meet up for a burger and beer, kind of joint.

The building was home to the first beer garden immediately following the prohibition and has been serving ice cold beer ever since! There have been several owners and partners through the years, but the most recent is the Mukensturm family. They have been a part of the biz and community since 1988! Sadly, Bill Mukensturm passed away in 2004, his name and legacy lives on in Muk’s Sports Pub.

Bill’s wife, Karin has done his memory and legacy proud; continuing their dream with the Pub. 2020 and into 2021, the restaurant and service industries have taken quite a hit, especially in Michigan. Muk’s was no exception. In 2020 Karin told her story to the Barstool Sports restaurant relief fund and was SELECTED! With the addition help, this local Pub has been able to remain open, pay their employees & bills and most importantly continue to provide a spot to spend time together with friends and neighbors.

If you are looking for a night out with good friends and food, look no further! Their burgers are made with locally sourced, never frozen beef and cooked to perfection. The beer is always cold and the atmosphere is friendly and fun.

The Irish Hills has been known for a great route to hit up Antique Stores, wonderful wineries and lakes. While all of those places and things are GREAT, there is a place along US 12 that is just plain STRANGE! Mystery Hill in Onsted, MI offers a baffling experience that you have to SEE to BELIEVE!

Since the early 1950’s, Mystery Hill has shown the public all of the gravity defying, odd phenomena’s that location has to offer. Water runs UPHILL, a ball will not roll downhill and a pendulum that only swings to the south are some of the strange exhibits that are on display.

A place where the laws of balance and gravity defy nature. Some of the major theories include earthquakes, magnetized mineral deposits, fallen meteorite, deflections of gravitational force and many others. Many large universities and technical centers throughout the United States have studied the baffling sights at Mystery Hill. It has also been featured on many television shows through the years.

This Family Center offers a chance to get up and close to the strange, gravity defying attractions located along US 12. While some of the exhibits may mess with your mind, if you like strange phenomena’s, Mystery Hill is for you!

Cruising down US 12 through the Irish Hills, there is A LOT to look at. The Irish Hills Wedding Barn & Convention Center is one of the many beautiful spots along the route. Built in 1948, this barn truly is a hard to miss beauty. Once upon a time this now wedding venue, used to be a working farm! It was used as a hay and milking barn on the Briggs family 500-acre farm.

Sadly, when the Briggs family moved on, the entire property was not taken care of. Luckily in 2017, this venue was purchased and repaired by the current owners. They had a vision of a beautiful rustic space to create the ultimate unforgettable moment for couples looking for the perfect wedding venue.

The Irish Hills Wedding and Convention Center barn is situated on roughly 27 acres and has a serene, rustic vibe. With several ceremony spots on site, there are options that fit every wedding size and style; The Silos, Pond View, Barn View, Hidden Irish Hills and inside the Historical 1848 Barn.

Let’s take a stroll back in history this week. In the late 1830’s Cement City was settled. Now the Post Office in Cement City, has been known by many names since its original settlement; Woodstock, Kelly’s Corners, Cement and, now Cement City.

➡️1838 – The name Woodstock; was given in honor of the original Township.

➡️1860’s – The name Kelly’s Corners, after a local landowner, Orson Kelly.

➡️1880’s – The name Woodstock CAME back!

➡️1901 – The name Cement formed. This was after a formation of an unincorporated village under William Cohan and was named for the pending cement company.

➡️Later in 1901 – the Post Office was renamed, Cement City.

➡️Cement City was incorporated to a village in 1953 and the name has stuck!

One of the biggest claims to fame, Cement City was home to the Peninsular Portland Cement Company. This Company was founded in 1889 by a group of men from Jackson, MI. The plant was located on Goose Lake. It was the first factory in the WORLD to have its machinery and lights completely powered by electricity.

The cement industry was successful in the area for more than 60 years before closing in 1961. Much of the once prominent plant was abandoned until the 1990’s when it was cleared for redevelopment. The new project never came to fruition and the land has remained idle still today.

For such a small Village, Cement City has a lot to offer in history in the Irish Hills.

Driving along US 12 in Jerome, MI you would never know that there is an EXPANSIVE off road park! You can’t tell how big this place is from the road. Bundy Hill Off Road Park is located on 350 ACRES!!

Bundy Hill is Southeastern Michigan’s Largest Privately Owned Off-Road Adventure Park! With all kinds of winding wooded trails, sand, rock crawling, gravel hills, bottomless mud pits and hood deep water! There is everything from a mild, low key trail to WILD! There is all terrain for OHV and ATV’s!

This place, like most in the Irish Hills as a rich history! The name comes from the original land owner, John Bundy. In the 1920’s, this spot became well known for The Michigan Observation Co. stick built tower on the highest point in the area. This is the SAME Company that built a sightseeing tower where a subsequent battle ensued between the company and resident on whose tower was taller. (We posted about this too! The Irish Hills Towers)

The Bundy Hill Tower was torn down in 1956 to make way for commercial mining, that LITERALLY took the hill down the road. Millions of yards of the hill’s high quality aggregate is spread throughout Michigan and Ohio to construct roads and major freeways! How cool! In 2012 this land was turned into the Off-Road Park it is today!

This Family oriented park is monitored by rangers and is an alcohol free zone. ATV rentals are available or you can bring your own! It is a fun spot for all ages!

The Croswell Opera House

Some of the oldest places have the richest history. The Croswell Opera House in Adrian, is no exception. Since 1866, the Opera house is THE oldest theater in MICHIGAN and one of the oldest continuously operating theaters in the UNITED STATES. Who knew? Right in our backyards!

The Theater was named for Charles M. Croswell, Michigan’s 17th Governor and an Adrian resident. Having had some of the greatest actors of the 19th century grace it’s stage; Edwin Booth, Otis Skinner, Maude Adams and more. A few political figures such as Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony have also shared time there.

Becoming a movie theater in the 20th century, many Adrian residents have childhood memories attending throughout the 50 years it displayed films. In the late 1960’s the building and movie goers where dwindling and it was thought the Croswell Theater would be no longer. However, many citizens banded together, purchased the building and revived the Croswell as a live theater!

Each year, pre-Covid, the Theater would host 6-8 full-scale musicals, as well as concerts, high school musicals and one straight play. This gives our community and the communities surrounding us a spectacular opportunity to enjoy live music & live entertainment in one of the oldest and richest historical gems in the Irish Hills.

The Croswell Opera House also gives a top-notch educational experience for area youth by exposing them to high standards, production values and gives them the opportunity to work with accomplished professionals in the field.

When you find a diamond in the rough – it’s hard not to YELL to everyone about it. Lowry’s Little Flock Farm is just that, a diamond in the rough and a SPECTACULAR find in the area.

In 2017 the Lowry Family purchased 30 acres of land with the sole intention of raising their family. Soon enough, those 30 acres would be home to goats, chickens, sheep, llamas, alpacas and a donkey! This hobby farm started with just 2 brown ducks! Most of the animals are rescue animals!

Initially, the Lowry’s started their fiber business to make their hobby farm self-sustaining. With each item created, they had to share these one of a kind, made from the heart items to everyone. Mittens, socks, hats and so much more can be found at craft shows and on their farm too!

With 2020 being what it is, they built a small outdoor shop for all customers to be able to safely shop and view these one of a kind items! Take a peek in the pictures at how CUTE it is! A great spot to go even during COVID because it is outdoors with a LOT of space to social distance!

From November 26th until December 31st, 2020, come take a RIDE through a Christmas Wonderland! This DRIVE THRU Christmas Light Show gives all a chance to enjoy the beautiful, twinkling lights from the comforts of your own vehicle. Michigan International Speedway is hosting again the 2020 Nite Lights, drive-thru show!

This is a tradition for the Irish Hills area for the last TWO DECADES! While MIS has hosted for only a handful of years, each time it seems to expand and add MORE lights! This year, it is a F I V E mile light maze with over 1 MILLION lights and about 500 individual displays to get you in the Christmas Spirit!

The owner, John Spink said this year’s maze will be a little bit different. Due to COVID, all activities that exist out of your own vehicle are cancelled, BUT plan to expect 30-45 minutes of beautiful displays!

Another FUN change to this year’s route, travelers will be brought through pit road! RACE FANS – here is your chance!!

This is such a HUGE light maze, that organizers start putting up the lights and various displays in SEPTEMBER! Nearly three whole months before opening day!

When driving past Comstock Park in Adrian, most of the year you wouldn’t think twice. BUT during the Holiday Season, Comstock Park DEMANDS to be seen! For the past seven years, the Comstock Park Christmas Riverwalk is covered in Christmas Trees, decorated and lit up! The City of Adrian and Adrian Rotary sell trees to local businesses, organizations, families and individuals to decorate and display throughout the Holiday Season. ��

Fun fact about this tradition – it holds the GUINNESS World Record for the MOST illuminated Christmas Trees in one location! In 2019, Adrian beat the existing record held by the Hallmark Channel with 559 trees in Herald Square in Manhattan. Little Adrian competing with the Big Apple! The record breaking tree count was 676 but the first year of this event, there were only 34 trees!

So if you are looking for something to get you in the HOLIDAY SPIRIT and OUT of the house, look no further! While there aren’t a lot of Holiday activities this year, this is one you CAN do! Take a drive to Adrian and enjoy the outdoor Christmas décor!!

The Tree Lighting Ceremony will not be held this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You can still participate in the Holiday fun though!

Based and inspired by a Michigan Farm family, the (Ruehle) Realy’s, the Museum takes a step back in time and give an expansive, detailed look to life in the 19th century. The Waterloo Farm Museum and the Dewey School Museum consists of multiple buildings, all keeping the integrity of life back then.

1️⃣The 150-year-old farmhouse was started in 1855 and has seen several updates and renovations since then. It’s said that when new styles came, each were incorporated in the farmhouse, giving it the unique appearance and history it has today!

2️⃣The Realy Barn isn’t really the Realy Barn. It was moved to the Museum in the 70’s from a neighboring farm and would be similar to the barn that would have accompanied the Realy Farmhouse in it’s prime.

3️⃣A log house, complete with a stone fireplace, is an accurate representation of a pioneer home in the 1840’s.

4️⃣The Granary was once the building that stored all the feed and grain for the animals on the farm, is now used as a gift shop for the Museum.

5️⃣The Milk Cellar was built underground to keep it cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Milk and butter only was kept in this cellar and it was sold at the market in Waterloo.

6️⃣The one-room Dewey School Museum is located down the road, was built in the mid-1800’s and held classes until 1956. Nowadays, you can find the schoolmarm teaching visitors about the one-room schoolhouse and what a typical day would consist of.

Talk about a legacy, for over 100 years, the Chanoler family has ran the historic Chanoler & Co. in downtown Adrian. Since opened in 1874, Chanoler’s has become a historic landmark in Adrian & in the Irish Hills.

In 1874 Charles Chaloner, opened a newsstand, tobacco and confectionary shop at 108 W Maumee in downtown Adrian. Originally a shoemaker, Charles changed his business plan when the shoe industry wasn’t that successful at the time. By the early 1900’s the second generation of Chanoler’s would step in, William and Mary Chanoler. For over 30 years they ran the business!

Years later, in 1935, William and Mary turned over the family legacy to their son, Bill and his wife, Mildred. In 1977 Bill retired after 42 wonderful years running Chanoler & Co. Sadly, with his retirement, the 103 years and three generations of running Chanoler & Co. came to an end.

While the business is no longer ran by a Chanoler, the following owners vowed to upkeep the tradition and character of the past 103 years their family had poured into the town and business. Joe Sauter ran the shop from ’77 until ’89 when David and Cindy Mowrey purchased it. The tradition of fresh cooked popcorn, old-fashioned candy and cigars lives on until this day.

While the building has seen renovations and new faces, 108 W. Maumee has a special place in history and the hearts of the town people. The old popcorn machine is still in the window and has numerous photos to remind us of the past character of the building.

Now the Chanoler’s Cigar House, it boasts a 300-sqaure-foot enclosed, temperature-controlled humidor on the first floor with over 1,000 brands of cigars! When you walk into the first floor of Chanoler’s, it takes you back in time, to a place of old-fashion candies, news and a different era.

Take to the second floor with comfortable lounge chairs, cozy fireplaces and a backlit bar that makes you feel in a big city. With a menu full of craft cocktails and elegant classic cocktails, it makes for a great night out or happy hour spot!

The third floor has a Cigar Society member’s only lounge with individual humidor lockers & a pool table. The third floor also has a BEAUTIFUL atrium. The atrium is open to everyone. It has so much light, a waterfall and truly is a sight to be seen.

While there is not a kitchen in the building, Chanoler’s allows deliveries from local restaurants or bring your own.

If you are looking to take a step back in time and enjoy a nice evening out, Chanoler Cigar House is the best combination of both!

FUN FACT – one of the restorations included the wheels from the caboose of the train featured in the Disney movie, Polar Express!

Where are our HISTORY BUFFS at?? The Irish Hills Towers have been a landmark in the Irish Hills since the early 1920’s!

The Michigan Observation Company were looking for places with a higher elevation to build 50 foot-high towers to boost tourism, and landed on none other than the Irish Hills! With a rich history, these Towers have plenty of stories to tell.

Originally, the Michigan Observation Company approached land owner, Edward Kelly to build on his land. When he turned down their offer, adjacent land owner, Thomas Brighton agreed and the first tower began construction.

Opening day in 1924 of the Irish Hills Observatory brought in hundreds of people to see the beautiful lakes, landscape and fields from the higher vantage point. When seeing the HUGE success of the MOC’s tower, Kelly decided to build his own to compete with the original tower. He built this tower several feet taller. Upon seeing this, the MOC also added to their tower to meet the same height as Kelly’s. These two towers competed as separate entities for quite some time.

��In the 1950’s, Frank Lamping acquired both towers and then attached them to a gift shop!

��In the 1970’s, both towers were refurbished and given new platforms, creating the identical look.

��In the 2000’s, the Irish Hills Towers were closed to the public and facing demolition.

��In 2007, the Towers were place on the National Register of Historical Places.

��In the 2010’s, the Irish Hills Historical Society began the process to bring the Towers back up to code.

These Towers have seen a lot of life, different owners, different looks and brought SO MANY tourists to the area. When driving down US-12 in the Irish Hills, this LANDMARK is hard to miss!

A 755 acre botanical garden, arboretum, and conservatory owned by Michigan State University and featuring annuals, bulbs, perennials, shrubs, trees, and tropical plants of both native and exotic origin. It is a public botanical garden, arboretum, and conservatory. We have three nationally significant plant collections: the Harper Collection of Dwarf and Rare Conifers, the Benedict Hosta Hillside, and the MacCready Bonsai Collection.

Walking, hiking, biking and driving through this beautifully kept botanical garden. There are six miles of paved roads throughout the gardens and arboretum, plus over ten miles of hiking trails. While driving through, most of the pavement is shaded with tree cover, making it the ideal place to see the wonders of the fall colors of Michigan. With each plant, tree, and shrub being labeled, it is a fun way to spend the afternoon learning!

You can hear all of the small animals pitter pattering throughout and birds singing galore. For a tranquil, outdoor experience, Hidden Lakes Gardens is the place to be.

Lorenzo Lizarralde founded Chateau Aeronautique Winery at his in home airplane hangar. As an international airline pilot, it is not surprising that he lives in a subdivision with a grass runway and most homes are equipped with hangars for personal aircrafts. In 2008, Lorenzo started another passion with the creation of his first batch of wine.

Whether you are a red or white fan, this winery has something for you. Their beautiful stemmed glasses, to the ambiance of an aircraft hangar or the gazebo, there is little to be left desired from a wine tasting.

Since 2008, Chateau Aeronautique has expanded quite drastically. With added amenities to the original location in Jackson, a new location & brewery in Onsted and another new location in Auburn Hills, it is clear that this winery is a fan favorite!

If you are coming down M-50, take a short jog down Pentecost Hwy to experience the NEW Irish Hills location. With an outdoor patio, the addition of their Blue Skies Brewery and a full kitchen, it really is the perfect location for a perfect afternoon. Starting off with just walk up service, the Spotted Cow has renovated the whole property into what it is today! If you stop at McCourtie Park, you can’t help but notice the unique bridges that look like wooden structures, but they are actually hand crafted from concrete to resemble wood! William H.L.
